Jackson Hole, under the Tetons
A few days of granite skylines, river mornings, and a cowboy town that cleans up well at dinner.
The Tetons do not bother with foothills. They go straight up out of the valley floor, and Jackson sits at their feet pretending this is normal. Base in town or Teton Village, get into Grand Teton National Park early each morning, and be back for a proper dinner by dark. Summer is wildflowers and river time, fall is gold aspens and elk bugling.

Do the park before ten, when the wildlife is out and the light is on the range, then give afternoons to the river, the tram, or a slow lunch in Moose. Book dinners in town ahead, Jackson tables are small and the season is short. A park pass and bear spray are both non-negotiable.

Snake River Grill
Best for The big night out
White-tablecloth mountain cooking on the Town Square for over thirty years, from steaks off the wood grill to an unreasonably good potato pancake with smoked salmon. The celebration dinner. Reserve early.
Cafe Genevieve
Best for The cabin brunch
Southern comfort cooking in a historic log cabin a block off the square, famous for pig candy, thick bacon lacquered in brown sugar. Brunch here before the drive north sets the day up right.
Dornan's in Moose
Best for The in-park lunch
Pizza and pasta on a deck staring straight at the full Teton range, inside the park at Moose. The view does most of the talking. Time it for a late lunch after Jenny Lake.
Million Dollar Cowboy Bar
Best for The obligatory round
Saddle barstools, neon out front, live country most nights, on the square since 1937. One round here is mandatory. Two rounds and someone in your group is two-stepping.

Grand Teton National Park
Best for The first stop
Start at the Moose visitor center to get bearings, ranger intel, and the day's wildlife report. The Teton Park Road north from here is the spine of every good morning in the valley.
Jenny Lake
Best for The classic morning
The park's centerpiece lake under Cascade Canyon. Take the boat shuttle across and walk up to Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point before the crowds, or loop the shoreline when you want quiet.
Snake River Overlook
Best for The sunrise photo
The bend in the river Ansel Adams made famous, with the range stacked behind it. Sunrise is the photograph. Sunset is the crowd-free consolation prize, still spectacular.
Chapel of the Transfiguration
Best for The five-minute wonder
A 1925 log chapel whose altar window frames the Grand itself. Steps from the restored homesteads of Menors Ferry. Quick, quiet, and the most photographed window in Wyoming.
Museum of Wildlife Art
Best for The weather-day ace
A stone museum built into the butte across from the Elk Refuge, with Remingtons, O'Keeffes, and a sculpture trail overlooking the flats. The weather-day plan that turns out to be a highlight.

The Aerial Tram
Best for The easy summit
The big red tram climbs over four thousand feet from Teton Village to the top of Rendezvous Mountain. Ride up for the view and a waffle at Corbet's Cabin, walk a ridge, ride down.
National Elk Refuge
Best for The wildlife hour
Twenty-five thousand acres of valley floor on the edge of town, wintering ground for thousands of elk and a summer home for bison, swans, and eagles. Drive the refuge road with binoculars at dusk.
Mormon Row
Best for The golden-hour barns
The weathered Moulton barns lined up under the full sweep of the range, left from a 1890s homestead settlement. Golden hour turns the old wood copper. Bring the wide lens.

Jackson Lake Lodge
Best for The sunset drink
The 1950s park lodge with sixty-foot windows aimed across Willow Flats at the range. A drink in the Blue Heron lounge at sunset, moose grazing below, is the cheapest great show in Wyoming.
Hotel Jackson
Best for The in-town base
A polished timber-and-leather hotel a block off the square, with fireplaces in the rooms and a Lebanese-inflected restaurant downstairs. The walk-everywhere base for a town-and-park split.
